The Cost of Putting Things RightAn investigative journal
Throughout the 20th century, Monsanto produced large quantities of PCB, a harmful, indestructible chemical compound. When PCBs were found to be carcinogenic, they were banned, and Monsanto had a disposal problem. Most of the 18 known PCB dump sites in the UK are in Wales. The Ty Llwydd quarry in the Sirhowy Valley is just one of them.Photographer Matthew Broadhead and writer Richard Owen Collins spent a year visiting the area, documenting the effects of the pollution, meeting with locals, and digging through archives to produce a compelling account of a baffling situation. This book is the sum of their experience.
